Balkan body music October

This autumn body music life goes faster than news… We have more than half of the month behind us and there are a lot of events. We are in residency at Ebenböckhaus, a beautiful villa in Passing, part of Munich.

As part of Artist in Residence Munich program of the Cultural Secretariat of the City (Kulturreferat), we’ll stay here until December 22nd, working with our colleague and currator of our program, Andreas Schantz / Octopus Theater.

As you are reading this, we are on our way to Finland, where we’ll attend WOMEX in Tampere. If you’d like to join us, we’ll be at the Serbian stand 1100, with our colleagues from World Music Association Serbia. After WOMEX on October 26th we invite you for a treat, a concert we will perform with Vilma Talvitie at the youth theater Tampereen Ylioppilasteatteri.

What happened in October?

We started the tour with a concert in Žilina in Slovakia at the Hudba sveta festival. We were performing in a villa from the begining of the previous century, Rosenfeldov palác, in a cosy hall full of audience. We did the songs from the new album for the first time! It felt so nice to have a warm audience that enjoyed our show. We are thankful to our host, Martin Noga.

At the PONT Festival in Budapest we had a pleasure of opening the program with a short act presented by Balazs Weyer in front of the National Hungarian Museum. This followed a workshop of body music with children and parents. We danced the wheel (kolo), learned different ways to perform music with our bodies and sung and danced to a few songs from Serbia. The PONT Festival features noted treasures of cultural heritage protected by UNESCO. This year Serbia was in the spotlight.

Just last weekend we had a concert with De Bavarian Immigrants in Eberharting, followed by a workshop of body music the next day. The photos and videos are coming soon.

Plans for November body music

Concerts and workshops in Germany are coming up! And what you can’t see or hear, but you will next year, is two studio recording sessions we will have. We are preparing Što mi e milo em drago, a beautiful Macedonian song, to record with Kathryn Doehner, Christoph Schoenbeck and Andreas Schantz. It describes the perfect moment: when everything is happens by itself, and you are just in the right time at the right place. Do you know the feeling?

The other song we’ll record with dear friends from De Bavarian Immigrants, Denise Weise, Heribert Heider and Stefan Knoll, is Tmina (The Darkness). This is an old song Ana wrote many years ago. We performed it on our self-released album In the search for the White Rabbit. It tells of the dark hours of souls searching, like the start of Dante’s Divine Comedy, in a form of a pseudo – folk song. Heribert translated the lyrics to German and we are looking forward to some polyphonic singing!
