Balkan body music October

Balkan body music travels to Korea! While you’re reading this, we are on our way to Dubai, then Seoul, then Gwangju, to perform at the Gwangju Busking Worldcup. It is a showcase festival for Asian music market we were lucky to be invited to and selected from more then 700 groups from all over the world.

First performance is on October 3, and then we’ll see if we go into the second round of 16 performers.

We’ll perform our music theater show for kids Centipede Rhymes, when we get back to Serbia in Sombor in National Theater on October 19.

The same day we’ll talk about the Singing Auction! It will be a part of the Global Orchestra crowdfunding campaign of the All Around This World project of Jay Sand, musician and educator from Philadelphia, USA.

Our online workshop and performance will be in the beginning of November, for the ones that do the highest bid.

We continue with the workshops in Belgrade in the Svitac kindergarten. Next one is on October 27, and you can apply here.

What was going on in September?

The September brings the beginning of the school year, so we started the seminars and workshops for teachers: in Croatia (Zagreb and Križevci) and Serbia (Waldorf Pedagogy Serbia, Belgrade).

We will come back to Zagreb for a one day seminar for teachers on October 12 bringing ready made tools for body music application in classes with kids and youth. The form to apply is here.

We did workshops in the primary school in Novi Sad, Serbia, as part of the promotion of body music technique, following the New Balkan Rhythm festival project. The workshops were supported by the City of Novi Sad, Secretariat for Culture. Every time we do workshops with kids we are reminded how valuable this technique is! It is such a fun way to learn, move, connect, communicate.

We performed in Switzerland for the first time, in a cool music school concert venue Aula in Goldach. Our hosts Cultural Association Bodensee welcomed us warmly. Even though it was not too warm during this weekend, we really felt like at home. We stayed in the center of St. Gallen and strolled all around the town, even met friends from the body music world, Mattias Wyss and Annie Kummer Wyss. The idea to do a theater show and then perform a concert after it sounded quite crazy, but we enjoyed it very much. So, 2.5 hours of performance is our new personal record, set on September 22.

Remembering August and the tour in Slovakia, we present you photos from the concert at Hidepark Nitra, a cool independent cultural centre near a river bank.

In the media

More resonances of our performances at the World Music Festival Bratislava and Maraton hudby in Brno can be found around 🙂

Ružena Šípková on seredonline.sk wrote of the performance in Bratislava:
In their performances, singing, body music, theater, dance and almost contagious joy are connected with ease. For example, the song Ergen dedo was decorated with insanely quick body percussions…
At the end of the concert, there was a massive applause and cheering in the audience.

Earlier that day, we did a workshop at the beautiful open air yard in the center of Bratislava:
Under the motto World music is for everyone …adults and children were able to participate in a workshop led by the temperamental Serbian duo Alice in WonderBand. Participants sang and tried out their skills body percussion technique in the Slovak folk song Maličká som, húsky pasiem and the Serbian folk song Kiša pada, trava raste in a fun way.”

The performance at the Veče udaraljkaša Križevci, percussionist festival in Croatia that we performed and tought at in September, was announced in the local media. We got an extensive coverage from the local Prigorski radio music journalist, Ratko Matić, in the radio show Do not disturb my circles in two episodes.

Ana talked about the New Balkan Rhythm festival in Aleksandar Mladenović’s Saletanje (Radio Novi Sad).

We released the Radio Proglas session on our YouTube channel! You can hear and see the performance at the studio. What was also very interesting is the interview we had led by Jannis Moras. He is a musician and radio host.

The first video was released on September 23, European Folk Day, which we celebrated for the second time. Last year we did a workshop in Novi Sad, following the New Balkan Rhythm festival.
